I am a business man who has been coming to China for 20 years. I visit often and I have had the opportunity to discover Chinese cooking for many years. I must confess that I stay very attached to our French cuisine.
When I come to Guangzhou, I stay in the Victory hotel, on the magnificent Shamian island (a little bit like our Saint Louis island in Paris). Since the opening nearby, around one year ago, of the French restaurant Orient Express, I have become a regular client.
The French manager and his Chinese wife are very welcoming and friendly. I really feel at home when visiting the restaurant.
The menu features a great choice of dishes that are very tasty and authentic French. The decoration and presentation of the plates are a celebration of great food.
This restaurant with its beautiful decor is very pleasant. Located in a large and green garden, it allows you to recharge after “a busy day in China”
As a starter, I love the fish Carpaccio with salmon cream or the pan-fried clams with olive oil and white wine but it is always difficult to decide. For the next time perhaps the Pan-fried goose liver with strawberries or the beef carpaccio with chick peas mousse.
For the main course, the grilled Australian beef filet mignon with red pepper “crème brûlé” and crumble, gratin dauphinois and ratatouille is my favorite.
The menu also features sea food, scallops, king prawns or fish that are worth trying.
On the dessert side, the “crème brûlé with pineapple” and the banana mousse with chocolate “mille feuilles” and three fruit soups are succulent.
I can only recommend you try this restaurant if you really want to treat yourself and have a good time.
